Tips and Techniques

As a new service to our customers and fellow beaders, we will be including a "Tips and Techniques" section to our website.

  Protecting Galvanized Beads
Many of you have asked what can be done to stop the galvanized finish on Japanese cylinder beads from rubbing off. This usually happens if your perspiration is acidic. You can use them safely by putting a shallow layer of beads in an aluminum pie pan. While shaking the pan, spray the beads lightly with the spray fixative called Krylon. (NOTE: SPRAY IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND READ CAUTIONARY STATEMENTS ON THE CAN LABEL.) You can find this spray at most art supply stores. The beads will dry almost instantly as you continue to shake them. Repeat this shaking/spraying process a few more times to achieve optimum results. This is a near perfect way to be able to utilize galvanized beads in your designs.
Stay tuned for more tips and techniques from Moonrise.
